Choice Of Investment Funds

At Broughtons Financial Planning Ltd we conduct extensive research on fund managers and their funds, by subscribing to the latest technology in analysis systems. This enables us to chart the performance and compare how well, or badly the fund has performed against its benchmark or peer group.

We assess how much risk the fund manager is taking to produce the results. For example, a manager who takes a lot of risk to produce good returns would be in greater danger of failing to deliver those results in the future. As an investor, you would be entitled to expect higher returns if a fund manager is taking more risk with your money.

A fund manager who consistently delivers good results without taking too much risk could be considered more reliable for the future.

A good fund manager will consistently do better than the yardstick known as a "benchmark".

Whilst recognising that past performance is an important factor, Broughtons Financial Planning Ltd also consider investment funds that we believe "should" do well and we identify the sectors that have potential to deliver out-performance in the future.

We study economic data and have face to face meetings with fund managers to fully understand their strategy and objectives before recommending them for client portfolios.

We select funds which we believe are suited to the economic landscape as well as appropriate to the client's attitude towards investment risk and agreed asset allocation.

Having chosen the funds that are tailored specifically for each portfolio, Broughtons has established the "buying power" with the investment companies to ensure that these funds are purchased at extremely preferential dealing terms. This provides the investment with the best possible opportunity to meet the clients objectives from outset, ensuring their portfolio

The final stage in the process is to ensure that the funds are monitored and reported on at each client's agreed review date, to ensure that the objectives of the investments are being achieved.
